BUT I PAID FOR THAT HORSE!
I was driving the three slant walkthrough. We had gone up to Vernal, Utah to see Brad, Gary and the gang at McCall Saddle. You see, Smokey had decided that he needed a new saddle because his old one was simply not presentable and he was embarrassed to be seen in it. Who knew that horses worried about such things?
I agreed to drive, but if Smokey wanted a new saddle just to impress the mares he...
PLAYIN' DOCTOR
Meanwhile, back at the Let Sleeping Dogs Lie ranch headquarters, Smoky and I had cleaned up from our day on the range and were heading to supper with Oman when Ima Loon zoomed up, sliding her truck to a stop in front of us and showering us with dust and dirt. So much for having cleaned up. Ima hurtled out of her truck, a crazed look on her face followed by hair flailing wildly behind, jabbering...
RIDING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE FENCE.
Having dealt with the who owns Imposter a.k.a. Trouble issue, Smoky and I were out somewhere on the West range moving about 120 Brahma Mamas and their babies to greener pastures. In the distance, one of the drag riders spotted a cloud of dust approaching, led by several fast moving riders. The herd was moving along nicely and not wanting anything to change that, one of our crew moved off to...

WE HAVE JUST THE HORSE FOR YOU. . .
So I’m sitting on my horse, got my batwings on, ranch rope secured, about to head out to help doctor some Brahma Mamas way out on the West range (and you thought I wasn’t working…). The phone rings, its Ditz Wonne who runs a small boarding and training operation. Ditz, Ditzy as she’s known to her friends, never calls until the issue had matured into a full-blown problem. Not a good sign. ...

HAVE I GOTTA HORSE FOR YOU. . .
So I’m sitting in my office working. O.K., so I wasn’t working, but I was thinking about working and in walks Kindah Onist. “Thanks for seeing me on short notice, I have small problem and thought I should consult with you - just in case…” Kindah Onist said. Over the years I have learned that when a client says “small problem,” sometimes it’s shorthand for big, huge, beyond imagination or...

Cidney Slikker In The County
So I’m sitting in my office working (really!) and in walks Ida Dobiz for our monthly meeting with one her friends in tow. “Is that a JWP saddle your looking at” “Why, yes it is” I replied. “Nice, tooling - hand carved no doubt.” “Why, yes indeed it is, look at that carving, its just incredible!” “I’ll bet that saddle doesn’t get ridden” said Ima. “Well, actually, it does get ridden on open trails...

The Joys Of Boarding Stables
So, I’m sitting in my office the other day working (really!) and in walks Ida Dobiz for her next meeting under the Virtual In-House lawyer program. “I have more trainer issues,” Ida said, “but let’s jump to my boarding operation because some of my clients are driving me crazy!” Since I was already very familiar with Ida’s business structure and operations, she jumped right in. “I’ve got...

Dubiz's Trainer
So, I’m sitting in my office the other day working (of course!) and in walks Ida Dobiz who, upon discovering that my Virtual In-House lawyer program would enable her to have the next best thing to a full-time counsel, had immediately signed up and was here for her first regular meeting. “I’m really excited about this program because I’ve got all sorts of issues that I need to be able to review...
ARE HORSE PEOPLE BETTER OFF WITH THE NEW RULES?
Lots of people, clients and otherwise, have been asking me how it is that we are better off with more rules. So, here’s the short answer (hard to believe I’m a lawyer).
Many people object to rules, particularly those rules that they don’t like. They argue along the lines of “no one can tell me what to do - especially on my land” or more colorfully said “I don’t need no stinkin’...

A Ride On The Wild Side
So, I’m sitting in my law office the other day, working (no kidding) and Ms. Polly Anna stopped by. It seems that while Polly was riding with her friend, Ima Hurtin, Ima was injured and blaming Polly for the accident. Although Ima had stopped talking to Polly, she did introduce Polly to a new acquaintance, Mr. Gonna Gettya - who just happened to be a lawyer and, by strange coincidence, just...
